I have downloaded Acronis True Image WD software in an attempt to clone my internal drive, each time I open the program it freezes my computer. On investigation, the problem seems to have been that the second drive was set to PIO access mode. Thanks GroverH for the good advice to leave everything. Both the old disk and the new boot OK and seem to have the same data. OK - the backup was sucessful and appears to have created a good copy.
